Inspiring Art Quilts

 Darcy of Darcy Doodle Quilts presented at our April online guild meeting.

Darcy shared how she became interested in art quilts because of a presentation at a guild meeting. Her creativity has led to much experimentation and her business “Darcy Doodle Quilts” which can be found on Etsy.

Darcy has explored various types of projects – small and large. Finding inspiration in nature, she has created many of her own patterns. Some of these are for sale and some even have kits with the needed fabrics. Small projects include post cards, journal covers, and pendants.

Darcy makes used of various fabrics (such as yarn, tulle, organza, silk, denim) and found items (such as doilies, lace, shells, driftwood). She laughs that her family sometimes calls her the stick lady because she is always looking for sticks to use with her pieces. 

Darcy has also created patterns for wall hangings. She is offering online classes and workshops.

Following the presentation members shared their show and tell items. Joyce and Kathy H both had a go at the bunny mug rug.

Christa finished hand quilting the "green" quilt for her nephew in Germany. The hand quilting took a bit than than she expected. 

Pam has been sending post cards to her granddaughters and others. She puts them in the mail as is, just asking them to hand stamp and sort them so they do not go through their machines.

Pam has also completed a square within a square quilt for her niece. She quilted it using "big stitch" with embroidery floss. She shares that she found the technique quite enjoyable.

Melanie has also been making post cards and a bunny for Easter.

Joyce has made an Easter garland.

Joyce also made a fleece hat from a pattern shared by a friend.

Linda has finally completed a cross stitched quilt which took a few years. Next she will hand quilt it. 

Linda also has made a few fun mug rugs, some Barbie clothes for her granddaughter and a pieced quilt.

Diane has been very busy. She knit socks for her son in Calgary and a jumper for her granddaughter who is turning one soon.

Diane made a flannel quilt using the "Turning Twenty" pattern which she modified to use up yardage left over from a previous project. She says Gisele quilted it and did a great job!

Diane made a bunny cushion since it was Easter time and made a new cover for her ironing board.

Debby H has finished the "Rainbow Quilt for Lily". It even has a rainbow on the back! Lily is her granddaughter.

Gisele has been learning new skills though it is not a quilt. It looks like you are a good student.
