KRQ March Meeting

This month we began our meeting with "From the Heart". Kim McCloskey-Lint is a cancer survivor and during her journey to recovery she received a number of comfort quilts. Kim spoke to the group from the heart, as someone who has received and been comforted by the work and thoughts of others.  Kim does not quilt herself and cherishes these quilts for the memories that they bring, that during her ordeal there were both friends and strangers that cared for and supported her. She talked about many people she met going through chemo treatments that also treasured the quilts they carried with them.

Her story reminds us of how fortunate we are to have the health to be able to quilt and maybe bring just a bit of comfort to those facing challenges.

This flannel quilt was from a firend

This is a Victoria quilt

This gift from a client was hand quilted

Dark Cobblestone Blocks were hand quilted at retreat and a workday

Nine Patch blocks left from a hospice quilt were put together and hand quilted by the Mactaquac morning out group, marking done by Ruth Gilmore

A birthday gift to Ella from her secret pal

Ella found this wide design fabric and coordinating fabrics at Fabricville (not a panel)

Ella received the fabric for this bag as a Christmas gift from he sister and sewed it that day before the meeting

Elizabeth's show challenge - Walk, Run or Relax: Enjoy the Moment

Linda took fabric for two quilts (One boy and one girl) to work on while having treatments, her new granddaughter was gifted with the girl quilt so Linda just finished the boy quilt.

The pattern for this Teddy Bear in bow ties quilt came from a library book Linda took home in January

The French braid table runner was made using the binding tool.

Christmas hanging was a gift from her sistr-in-law Evelyn

Linda also finished these three winter panels

Diane made this cosmetic/project bag

This toss cushion is for her den

Debbie finished a UFO project. Pattern came from a library book for the double Irish chain and will be a wedding gift for family in Dublin

Toni purchased bird panels at the Augusta quilt show last summer and made this gift for her friend

Madeleine fell in love with twister rulers and did placemats and a table topper

Brenda, Marcie and Joy quilt together weekly and used the same fabrics to make these "Between the Lines" Jelly Roll quilts

There was enough fabric left that they did an extra quilt as a comfort quilt

Darcy created this hanging from a calendar picture, designed it, quilted and thread painted it.

At the Villa Madonna retreat, Debbie say a ruler to make this pattern and purchased it and matching fabric.  someone at the retreat then said it was extremely difficult and thought she may never be able to finish the quilt.  Undaunted, Debbie used some scrap fabrics to try the technique and did this block.  she is now ready to tackle the full quilt with her beautiful new fabric!
