2016 June Potluck and Meeting

We all enjoyed  a wonderful potluck with lots of games. Several people went home with enough two inch strips to make a small quilt! We welcomed Joan Gamble (Long arm quilter) and Caeley C.  as visitors and two of our senior life members: Ruth G and Jessica.



Kathy A shared a great recipe for making spray starch. Take the cheapest vodka you can find (better potato starch) add 1 ounce of vodka to 1 cup of water. Add a drop of scent such as linen (found in craft aisles for making potpourris), and spray away.



Show and Tell

 Marcie showed two comfort quilts made by Andrea

Wendy made a lap quilt for a wedding gift for friends from Parlee Beach. The pattern in he book had mixed the sizes of the templates, some were half scale. She had cut several pieces before she realized it so she made a mini version for herself!

Joanne's grandson loves Star Wars so she made him pillowcases and a dress for her great niece.

 Dixie found a pattern for bags so made a number of those from charm packs and some Christmas candle mats.

She also made a quilt for a lucky granddaughter with the Frozen theme.

Elizabeth had purchased a book at Country Crafts and Curtains when the guild first started. She has worked away on it and incorporated a few extra appliques like the Canadian flag. she and her mom Ruth quilted it.

Olivia saw this pattern in a magazine from the retreat, purchased material and made it at retreat. She used scraps to make small hearts. Ruth G, her grandmother quilted it for her.
















Kathy H continued making quilt sleeves for her challenge with a flower garden, clothes line for Earth Day and Novembers Remembering is a memory of 42 years of family retreats at the cottage.

Joyce made four more challenge projects: May – gardens, June- Up, Up and Away, July’s I am Canadian and August – Lazy Days of Summer

 

Toni made this beautiful quilt for a luck niece getting married in July. It is called Pin Wheel Panache.





















Carolyn completed more quilt blocks for her challenge, planting trees for Earth Day and In My Garden.

Carolyn finished the binding on this quilt at 5 o’clock before the meeting and has a pillowcase to go with it.

She made this for her mom as a lap/nap quilt!

 

Andrea has been busy finishing up UFOs. She finished quilting her spicy spiral table runner. Each color is quilted differently.

 She pieced and quilted this quilt block from a book called NB Quilting Patterns.

 It is called Jemseg Dahlia.

 

 

She made a mini quilt pattern from her stash.

 

Andrea did free motion quilting to show off the negative space on this mini quilt.

 

She did free motion quilting on this and timed herself…

It took 6 hours from cutting fabric to binding!

 

 Christa started a pattern at retreat. When she arrived home cliff thought the material looked like pajamas so she went and bought new material and started it again. This is the final result

The quilt is from a kit she purchased five years ago and just did. It was quilted by Gwenda

 

Susan A finished her piece from the workshop.  She also made this baby  quilt.

 

 

The neighborhood made this wedding quilt for she and Glen. Darcy ‘s mom made the hunter star and Glen made the heart. Some people had never quilted before and it will always be a special memory quilt for her.

 

Melanie made a table topper for her daughter’s round table, she created the pattern herself

She wanted to try attic windows and this was the pretty result.

 

Melanie’s daughter Caeley has always said she did not want to sew. Recently on a day she was very bored she changed her mind, found a pattern and stitched herself a pouch for carrying headphones and earbuds. Her first project was a success with zippers included!

 

Ella saw a pattern on the internet and made this for a young girl who lost her home in the Fort McMurry fires. Done in two days!
