2017 January

Our program for this month was "Quilts of Valour".

A Quilt of Valour™ is a "hug from the nation" to an injured CAF Member or honoured Veteran who has served and made sacrifices for our country.

Some patterns can be found on their website at:

The quilt standards must reflect the level of gratitude that we want to demonstrate to the recipient. A Quilt of Valour™ must be a minimum size of 55" by 70".

A call has also gone out for quilts for Portage Atlantic. Portage is an organisation that helps people suffering from substance abuse-related problems to overcome their dependencies and live healthy, happy, and productive lives. The size of these quilts should be 60x75.

Our Darcy H has been published.....twice!!
Darcy was published in Stampington (Art Quilting Studio ) after they saw her postcards on Etsy.  She sent in several by request and they selected the moose and fiddleheads.  Sew Somerset also published four pages.
Glen surprised her by framing her fist published article!

Tips & Gadgets
Its good to do maintenance of self healing mats on a regular basis. Several sites offer suggestions:
Andrea R keeps each of her started projects in a bag with the thread, fabric, pattern etc. She keeps a note on the bag documenting what stage she is at and what is left to be done.
Show & Tell
Heather saw this quilt done by another member so started one herself at retreat.  she had to find enough fabric to finish it. It was quilted by Linda.
This is Ella's 29th Necessary Clutch wallet! Once cut out and ironed she can complete
one in a half day now.
Melanie says Ruth is to blame/or inspired this quilt! She won some mini charms and gave them to her, she wanted to try some redwork so tied the two projects together and Marilyn helped her quilt it.

Kathy a made a mini tote and the Illusion Quilt from Missouri Star. she machine quilted it herself.

The Night Sky quilt done by Andrea was quilted using thread that matched each star.

Linda found the pattern for this in a library book.

Kathy H finished this fidget quilt for our donation to Alzheimer patients

Debbie D had a bag she made earlier that a friend wanted with a zipper.
She was easily able to add a zipper after the bag was finished. added.
