February 2024 Guild meeting

We had a lovely trunk show at our February meeting with Natalie Duncan showing us her beautiful works.

I did not take photos - as I was late and simply forgot - it was fun to see all of her works in progress and finished pieces....of course - like everyone she also has quilts that need to be bound!  (Unlike some of us she likes this process too! LOL)

I did however manage to get lots of photos of show and tell!  Look at this sweet Red cardinal that she made from a pattern received at a prior months meeting!  the pattern instructions weren't the greatest but we think the result is sweet!

Heather has a new bag for us this month! a Crocheted bag! isnt that fun! She always comes up with some nice bags!

Carlinda was able to get lots of blocks done at retreat 45?!  They are such a pretty color purple.

To take her mind off of the tedious blocks - she wanted something mindless to work on  - I cannot imagine it would be mindless - it turned out sweet! It's one of those 'quilt as you go' bags that she is making for a friend who likes fishing - the light blue fabric has fishes - and Christa helped with some other color selections! No handles but she'll get there!

Mrs. D also went to retreat and made this mug rug - a sunbonnet Sue pattern - such nice work E does!

She also made this gorgeous quilt - the blocks were given to her a number of years ago - they were embroidered by her mother.  At retreat - she squared them up, added sashing and borders - the hand work is beautiful as is the color of the sashing and borders too!

This was made by Melanie to commemorate her trip with her daughter and husband to Ireland.    Each building represents a building that they saw on their travels.  She told us a great story about one of the buildings - with the moral of the storey being sometimes  you need to look down to find what you are looking for! (the building had the building number near the ground - not in the 'expected' location.   In the second picture you can see Melanie pointing out the number.  Her daughter knew just which building was which when she saw it.  What an awesome memory item!!

a gorgeous quilt made by Debbie H  - isn't it beautiful!  she quilted it as well and the second photo shows the back! Beautiful!

This quilt was pieced by a friend of Debbi's its a one block wonder/whack n stack - Debbi didnt care for the border so she removed it and put on three instead! it turned out nice!

Debbi started this log cabin type quilt at retreat - the blocks finished at 5 1/2" square if I recall correctly - she got a great deal of them done (the black and 'white') and its coming together.  it will be spectacular when its done!

What a unique memory quilt Joan made -  take a look at the details! there are cheer tees as well as baby clothes- what a gorgeous memory quilt.

this is the back!

beautiful name tag! she's going to color it in!

Jodi finished this one up at retreat!   It's one of the murder mystery quilts that she participated in a few years back!

Ruth made this for Pam - what a great friend!

I hope I have the story right - Pam gave her daughter a calendar of cross stitch patterns one year - so after that her daughter started sending her back the finished cross stitch.  Pam mounted them on this board - they are really nice - upclose! they are Mary Engelbreit patters as is the background fabric on the board.

this quilt was part of the round robin challenge that we had a few years back.  it started with a block and then each person added their own flair. It was done out to the black border which was one wide black border.  Toni took it and felt that the corner embroidery was not getting the attention it deserved so she took that off and replaced it with three smaller borders with the green in the middle.  Loving the work that Joanne C had done on the inside border she repeated it on the next border then added a couple more pieced borders - what a stunner this top will be!

\

This was a comfort quilt that Carlinda made and that Toni bound - it turned out so nice - such a pretty color pallette!

Toni also finished this up while at retreat - it  was a block of the month that she and Heather had participated in.  Heather has a couple blocks done ;) lets just say not the full quilt.
Toni wanted this to be large enough for her bed - so added some borders, she also changed a few blocks -one of the snowmen and the reindeer!

Toni is making these pin holders for her upcoming trip to Scotland!  She found some perfect 'canadiana' fabric and some inexpensive notions - the girls can use these to gather signatures or collect pins which is quite popular in Scotland!

Ill wrap this up with a photo of Heathers bag again - we wanted to ensure that we had plenty of photos to share her creation!

thanks for looking! leave a comment - we love to hear your thoughts!

Our next meeting will be March 11 2024 at the Keswick Ridge Community Centre!

Guest Poster: Carlinda Daigle - November 2023 Workshop

Mini Charming Christmas Tree Workshop held on Saturday, November 25 was lots of fun.  The project wasn’t hard and we could have done it on our own at home but what fun would that be.  We had 10 participants including the facilitator, Carlinda, and we all came pretty close to finishing the tops of our projects.  We tweaked the pattern to suit our fancy and here are what we created.

This one was Helena’s and I love the simplicity of the single colored tree.  Well done Helena!

This lovely tree was created by Heather who used a charm pack and went outside of her normal color wheel.  The tealish colors really pop in this pattern.  Nice work Heather!

This golden tree belongs to Elaine.  The swirls on the end make it look like there are golden winds hugging the tree.  The bubbles in the background are huge snowballs.  Nice color selection Elaine!

This festive tree was created by Diane.  The holly and the pointsettia make this the perfect Christmas tree.  Great job Diane!

Don’t you just LOVE the outside border of this beautiful tree?  Colleen took no time at all to throw this Christmas tree together.  I love how she narrowed the border to frame the Christmas tree.

Being a lover of purple this tree was created by Carlinda.  She thought she would shake things up a bit and make a Halloween Tree instead of a Christmas Tree.  The black border frames the tree nicely.  Good job Carlinda.

What a stunning background!!  The tree really pops on this background and the golden fabric creates a magical combination.  Great job Betty!

Look at the birds in this Christmas Tree!!  This perfect blend of reds and greens make this tree stunning.  Nice job Pat!

Green, Green Tree!!  This beautiful tonal green Christmas Tree was created by none other than Nancy.  The background fabric is a great match as it looks like big snow flakes! Great color selection Nancy!

One of the members of our guild once said, “Patterns are just a suggestion.”  That was the case with this pattern as a slightly narrower border was the perfect balance.  The squares in the border were supposed to be 2-1/2” but it was felt they were too big and busy.  Nice work Joyce!

~~thank you Carlinda for keeping our content interesting!!!

Guest Blogger: Carlinda Daigle - Placemats for the Tiny Homes Residents

Placemats for the Tiny Homes Residents

Here are photos of the placemats that were dropped off for Joyce and Ruth to donate to the residents of

the tiny homes. At the meeting Joyce felt we had enough and later in the week her and Ruth got

together to wrap the placemats. There were 81 in total and that was more than enough for the

residents. Thank you all for your continued support of this wonderful initiative and Merry Christmas to

you all. Joyce and Ruth
